In 2005, Christian Living Communities faithful volunteers donated more than 28,000 hours of service providing a smile, a touch, a prayer, a cup of coffee, or time for a visit with a resident. They are seen working in the gift shops, assisting with activities, playing the piano, providing transportation, and helping with repairs and maintenance. Their volunteer hours are the equivalent of 13.5 full time employees.
The volunteers also work continually to raise funds for equipment or supplies that "enrich the lives of seniors." Their funds make it possible to meet various community needs for everything from a new adaptive computer to an updated therapy tub for residents. In 2006, CLC graciously accepted their gift of $38,879.
Our volunteers' greatest gift, however, is priceless. It can't be counted or tallied. Rather, it is seen in the eyes and felt in our hearts as they go about their work of bringing joy to the residents.
Staff, residents and volunteers at CLC also reach out to the community and the world to give back through volunteer service. More than 10 projects are ongoing - blood drives, health fairs, community walks or races to support various causes, correspondence programs with military stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and educational outreach.
Joshua Station became a new outreach for Christian Living Communities in 2005. Once a hotel, Joshua Station is now transitional housing for families with children. All families residing at Joshua Station participate in a 15-month Family Life Plan. In addition to affordable housing, the plan includes training and information regarding spiritual life, life skills, community living, finance and budgeting, and education/employment. Joshua Station has been successful in providing the resources and support needed to give many families the assistance they require to regain independence and stability.
During the Christmas season, Christian Living Communities residents and staff donated household items and toys, making it possible for parents to provide gifts for their children. Additionally, our Holly Creek residents learned of a woman at Joshua Station who had undergone emergency surgery and was unable to meet her financial obligations. The Holly Creek residents donated generously to assist her monetarily through her recovery period. Even now, our communities continue to provide support to families at Joshua Station.
